Evelyn Mae Odegaard was born on May 27, 1918, to George and Ruby (Phalon) Winters in La Crosse, Wis. She and her two brothers, Kenneth and Merlyn, grew up in Centerville, Wis., where their father, Earl, owned the corner store.
She graduated from Winona Teachers College (now WSU) in 1932. She taught at Stevenstown and Centerville, Wis. Evelyn also taught at Winona Secretarial School and the College of St. Teresa. She was a private secretary to Ben Miller. Evelyn was a real estate agent for Skeels/Moore and Associates.
On September 8, 1940, Evelyn married Arne Odegaard in Winona, Minn. They made their home in Winona, where they raised their children, Richard and Bonnie. Arne died on February 9, 1983.
Evelyn was a member of Pleasant Valley Free Church. She belonged to P.E.O, WSU Alumni Association and the Westfield Tuesday Ladies Card Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruby Winters; husband, Arne; brothers, Kenneth and Merlyn Winters. She will be greatly missed by her children, Rev. Richard Odegaard (Donna) of Louisville, Colo., and Bonnie Todd of St. Charles, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and many more relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, 1476 W Broadway. Evelyn’s funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior to service at Pleasant Valley Free Church, 1363 Homer Road, with Pastor Rick Iglesias presiding. Burial will take place in the spring of 2014 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Centerville, Wis.
