The String Ties, a Coulee Region bluegrass band, will headline the holiday edition of Live@the Levee on Saturday. Live music from noon until 8 p.m. will be featured inside a heated tent in the park.
Live@the Levee will hold its first annual holiday concert this Saturday, December 21, inside a huge heated tent in Levee Park, starting at noon. The free event will feature live music, activities for all ages, food and beverages, including a beer tent, and local craft vendors. “We wanted to create a community Christmas,” Live@the Levee organizer Maggy Jacqmin explained.

The first Live@the Levee concert, which was held this past October, was the result of a Levee Park revitalization effort from a group of local citizens and city officials. The October concert was attended by nearly 1,000 people and also featured music, food, and family-oriented activities.

“It’s a free event and we have many local Winona businesses supporting us,” Jacqmin said. “We do Live@the Levee because we want everybody to come and enjoy Levee Park.”

Jacqmin, who is originally from Belgium, said that for her, Live@the Levee is a way to enjoy the holiday time as a community and to bring a little bit of her home country traditions to Winona.

“In Europe we have outside markets with music and something to eat,” Jacqmin said. “Now people here can experience that and also enjoy Christmas together as a community.”

Headlining the concert will be String Ties, a bluegrass band based in the Coulee Region of Wisconsin. Live@the Levee will also have family activities, such as a children’s craft activity provided by the Minnesota Marine Art Museum from noon to 3:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be for sale, and arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand for last-minute Christmas shopping.
