Styba, Lambert ‘Bert’ C. (12/25/2013)

Lambert “Bert” C. Styba, age 88, of Winona, died Friday, December 20, 2013, at Winona Health.

Bert was born July 6, 1925, in Winona, to Michael and Helen (Stolpa) Styba. He was a lifelong area resident and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. On August 28, 1948, he married Esther Llewellyn at Saint Stanislaus and this past August, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. This marriage was blessed with three children.

Bert was employed at Brom’s Foundry, Winona, as a shipping foreman for over 30 years. He is a member of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Kostka, Winona. Bert and his wife, Esther, spent many years trailer camping throughout the country. Bert had a real love and talent for making toy trucks and cars from wood, which he gave to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Bert was the one you could always count on whenever help was needed. He was a multi-talented guy who could play a mean game of pool and was known to bowl the occasional 600 series.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, Winona; three children: Kate (Les) Bohnen, Onalaska, Wis., Mike (Deb) Styba, Shoreview, Minn., and Dave (Barb) Styba, Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Tony Ferrie, Kelly Worth, Ben Styba, Jay Schleifer, Becca Fink, Jeff Styba, Molly Styba, and Annie Wiegers; seven great- grandchildren: Olivia Styba, Isaac Worth, Violet Styba, Eli Worth, Teagan Styba, Jasper Fink and Lucy Wiegers; two sisters: Rita (Dave) Lueck, Winona and Tess Varner, Winona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dick Styba; and two sisters: Milly Malotke and Audrey Noeske.

The family would like to express its special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Winona Health for their superb care of Bert while in their care and for the kindness and compassion given to the entire family.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Basilica of Stanislaus Kostka, with The Rev. Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiating. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona, with military burial rites provided by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9, Winona. Casket bearers were his grandchildren.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona.
