From: Mary Zimmerman,
Come to me all of you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Please allow me to expand just a little on a past article ďWhat Child is This?Ē We too, asked that question each time God sent us a new baby (which was quite often). We started out with Kathleen Anne (Kathy) and ended up with Lynette Marla, and tried to make good choices for all those in between. As they were all baptized, they, too, became a child of Maryís son Jesus, a child of God. Now God is calling them and all of us to come to him. He desires our friendship, He never stops loving and thinking about each one of us, and He hopes you return the favor.
The following is a partial list of the ways He desires to be there for us, partially taken from the Word Among Us meditations.
Come, you who hide under shameís dark shadow, let my light shine into your darkness (God wants to illuminate the darkness of sin with His light of forgiveness). God says come, if the world has disappointed you in some way - lack of success, sickness, addictions, victims of violence, marriage problems. Yes, God offers us help in all these circumstances and more. Quite often we hear someone say in a difficult situation, I just donít know what to do anymore! I just want to say, have you tried prayer? Why is it that sometimes itís the last resort? I would further say the power of prayer, the love from my family and friends and being a charitable person is what keeps me above the waters of depression.
God says yes, come to me, open your heart to me, any hour (I never sleep). I love it when we spend time together and you confide in me. I am true wisdom. Open up the Scriptures or just provide some silent time, let me speak to you. My mercy is yours for the asking. Let me cleanse you in the sacrament of reconciliation (Psalm 103). Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. Not according to our sins does He deal with us, nor does He requite us according to our crimes.
Now let me nourish you at the Eucharistic feast. I will give you all of myself, body, blood, soul and divinity. I sometimes wonder who of us can fully grasp that. I canít, but I do believe once in a while Our Lord confirms that with a Eucharistic miracle. I am aware of several. We as Catholics make a big deal out of adoring Jesus in the Eucharist with Perpetual Adoration. Someone is scheduled to be in prayer 24 hours of the day, asking God to penetrate our hearts to know, love and serve Him more fully. My friends, donít walk away. Take Godís hand and let Him walk the journey of life with you, that will bring us to the realization we shouldnít look to this materialistic world for true happiness, that only God can give you the joy and peace you so desire.
This time of the year we must also hear Godís invitation - come, come to the manger, help me celebrate my birthday. Later you are invited to come to the foot of the cross, but for now come to the crib. Wish me a Happy Birthday. Iíll answer Merry Christmas.
At some unknown time in our lives we will get one last call from God. Come to me, come home to heaven. Are you prepared?
P.S. Hopefully thatís where you have built your house. Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel. Help us.
