SMU annual benefit set (01/08/2014)
From: Hannah Friedrich

Silent Auction Chair

Silent Auction Advisor

Lance Thompson

Director of Student Activities

Saint Mary’s University

It is once again time to honor someone in connection with our community. On behalf of the Office of Student Activities and the Taylor Richmond Benefit Committee, it is my honor to announce the beneficiary for the 2014 Taylor Richmond Benefit. This year’s beneficiary is Jason Richter, who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He had pain in his lower back that turned out to be a mass, hindering the flow of liquids in his spinal cord. This is a disease that is more commonly found in people around the age of 60. Because of his young age, Jason has been able to respond well to treatments. Those treatments have included ten radiation sessions, as well as recent bone and stem cell transplants. He still has a way to go, including another round of stem cell transplants. On top of that, the Richter family lives an hour away from the hospital where he is receiving help in Iowa City.

The silent auction for the 14th annual Taylor Richmond Benefit will be March 13 and 14, 2014. The three-day Taylor Richmond Benefit event has been very successful in the past and relieves some stress on the beneficiary’s family. In the past we have been very blessed with the support of both the Saint Mary’s community and the businesses of Southeast Minnesota, and we are hoping that we can have that same blessing again this year. We are asking the members of our community to help us by donating to the silent auction. Silent auction items have consisted of all-expense paid trips, electronics, dinners, themed baskets, tickets to sporting or music events and gift cards.

Any donation you can provide will be greatly appreciated by the Taylor Richmond Benefit Committee, Jason, his wife, and three young sons. This year’s proceeds will assist Jason’s family in both medical expenses and travel costs.

Donations for the silent auction or monetary donations to help with cost of dance or supplements for the silent auction may be sent to: Hannah Friedrich, Saint Mary’s University, 700 Terrace Heights #1090, Winona, Minn., 55987. Or we will pick up your donations from your office or business; this may be arranged by contacting Hannah at 507-319-0660.

With your help, I am sure that the silent auction for the 14th annual Taylor Richmond Benefit can be as successful as it has in the past, or better! We would like to have all donations by March 6, 2014.

I would like to thank you in advance for making the 2014 Taylor Richmond Benefit a success, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
