Man jumps out second story window (01/15/2014)
By Amelia Wedemeyer

On Friday, January 10, at approximately 8:12 p.m., an inmate escaped from the Trempealeau County Health Care Center in the Town of Lincoln by jumping out of a second story window. Michael R. Leavitt, 31, who was spotted at the Kwik Trip in Whitehall, Wis., allegedly stole a vehicle that was parked and running in front of that store. Leavitt then led deputies on a brief low-speed chase that ended when deputies got him to stop the vehicle on Highway 53 south of the city of Blair. He was taken into custody without incident. Leavitt was treated for a minor injury at the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, Wis., and then returned to the Trempealeau County Health Care Center. Assisting the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department were the Blair Police Department, the Whitehall Police Department, the Independence Police Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Galesville Ettrick First Responders.
