Benevolence & Blues (01/19/2014)
The Winona Health Foundation invites community members to a unique event, ‘Benevolence & Blues,’ Friday, January 31, at Visions Event Center at Signatures.

“This will be a special evening celebrating generosity, blues music and delicious barbeque,” said Betsy Midthun, Winona Health vice president of Community Engagement. “We will be recognizing individuals and an organization that have been chosen for their generosity of time, talent and/or treasure.” Honorees include:

• Lois Frank, Winona Health volunteer for 70 years

• Jeremy Compton, CBET, certified biomedical electronic technician

• Debbie Gappa, LPN, Pediatrics Department

•Helen Bagshaw, RN, Intensive Care Unit

• Mr. & Mrs. Lester Boelter, retired Winona business owners

•Betsy and Dave Rowekamp, MD, Humanitarian Relief Fund

• The Winona Health Auxiliary, Nancy Enochs, 2013 President, Sheryl Miller, 2014 President

The community event is also playing on the ‘blues’ theme. “You may have the winter blues and just need a fun night out,” said Midthun. “We are encouraging attendees to wear their favorite blues—whether it’s dress blues, blue scrubs, blue jeans or blue suede shoes. Blue is also the Winona Health color, so employees could even wear their logo wear.”

The dinner menu includes: Barbeque ribs, chicken skewers with Carolina style barbeque sauce with peppers, onion and zucchini, grilled kielbasa sausages, homemade corn bread, baked macaroni and cheese, salad, sweet corn and dessert.

Entertainment includes the Larry Price Trio and special appearances by Winona Health staff including John Rislove, director of Behavioral Health, and Angie Johannes, director of Surgical Services. Volunteers from the Winona Health Auxiliary Follies will also provide a sneak preview of that event on February 27 and 28, and March 1 and 2.

Tickets are $30 per person. The evening begins with a hors d’oeuvres, blues music and a cash bar. Dinner, more entertainment and stories of generosity round out the evening. Reservations will be accepted through Monday, January 27. RSVP by sending a check to the Winona Health Foundation, and mail to: Winona Health Foundation, 855 Mankato Ave., Winona, MN 55987. Please include the names of those attending. If questions, call 507.474.3264.
