The Winona Area Catholic Schools (WACS) will kick off a fundraising effort on Thursday, January 23rd. WACS students will be joining 84 other Catholic schools in selling tickets, with the hopes of being the first million-dollar Catholic Schools Raffle.
WAC’s students will sell $5 tickets for a three-state raffle that is offering prizes such as a 2014 Honda CR-V, $25,000 cash and vacation packages. The school hopes to raise $12,000 to support its programs and students.
The school will be able to keep all the money it brings in, because Catholic United Financial, based in St. Paul, Minn., will cover the cost of the prizes and materials needed.
The top-three performing schools will also receive a $3,500 grant from Catholic United. The top-selling student and family will receive a Kindle Fire HD and all classrooms will win a pizza party if they meet their classroom goal.
Tickets will be sold through March 2. The drawing will be held on March 13.
Last year, the 82 participating schools raised more than $960,000. In the four years it has existed, the annual raffle has helped Catholic schools raise more than $2.2 million.
