Spaag, Carol J. (01/22/2014)
July 10, 1940 –

January 19, 2014

At sunrise on Sunday, January 19, 2014, Carol Jane Spaag was reunited with her Lord.

Carol was born on July 10, 1940, to Raymond and Lola Dunn, along with her twin sister, who died shortly after birth.

Carol was joined in holy matrimony to Leonard Spaag on July 25, 1964, at St. Mary’s Church in Winona.

Together over 49 years, they raised their four children: sons Dennis (Irene), Mark (Susie), Mike (Amy) and their daughter, Susie (Steve) Puffpaff.

Carol enjoyed the love of grandchildren: Fred, Jordan, Paul, Nick, Chuntia and Ethan; and great-grandchildren: Noah, Adeline, Jackson, Lydia and Benjamin. Additional survivors include her brother-in-law, Lester Spaag (Maxine), and sister-in-law, Mabel Nagel, nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends, especially those from her nursing career.

Carol graduated from Winona Senior High, and then from the College of St. Teresa, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, after which she began a long and distinguished career caring for others and teaching others to do the same.

At St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, the College of St. Teresa and finally Winona State University, her compassion has touched the lives of her family, friends, patients and students to this day.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Winona. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.

The family would like to thank Gundersen Lutheran CCU staff for their wonderful care of Carol during these past weeks.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com.

Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona.
