Last river accident victim found (01/22/2014)
By Amelia Wedemeyer

On Sunday, January 19, rescue workers recovered the body of Andrew Kingsbury, 29, of La Crosse, Wis., from the Mississippi River near Winona. According to the Winona County Sheriff’s Department, Kingsbury’s body was found approximately 125 feet downstream of the Highway 43 bridge, about 20 feet from the shore. A robot equipped with sonar located the body after a cadaver dog indicated the area to workers. Kingsbury’s recovery comes two weeks after he was involved in an early morning car accident on January 5, near the stretch of road where Huff Street turns into Riverview Drive. At the time of the accident he was riding in an SUV driven by Christina Lee Hauser, 36, of Winona, along with his high school friends Matthew Patrick Erickson, 29, of Chatfield, and Blake Overland, 28, who had recently moved to Winona from Stewartville.

According to Winona County Sheriff’s deputies, it was determined that all four victims had drowned.
