Police seek hit-and-run driver (01/26/2014)
By Amelia Wedemeyer

Police say they are still looking for the driver of a medium/dark teal blue pickup truck that was involved in an apparent hit-and-run accident involving two pedestrians at Broadway and Washington Street last Saturday.

Based on a paint chip and bug deflector recovered from the scene, police are looking for a 1992-2000 Chevy or GMC pickup truck. The official color of the vehicle has been identified as a “medium/dark teal,” which can also appear as a medium/dark blue depending on the light.

“We’ve only received two phone calls regarding the accident,” Winona Police Sergeant Chris Nelson said. “Somebody has to know something.”

Andrew Thomas Wood, 20, of Robbinsdale, and Maxwell Casey O’Brien, 19, of Excelsior, were crossing the Broadway crosswalk when witnesses say a pickup truck driving westbound struck them and continued on. Both men were taken to Winona Health for the treatment of injuries, with Wood subsequently being airlifted to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. Police say Wood sustained a broken pelvis, while O’Brien received an ankle injury as well as a knee injury that may require surgery.

Anyone with knowledge of this incident is asked to contact the Winona Police Department at 507-457-6302.
