Meyer, Raymond E. (01/29/2014)

Raymond E. Meyer, age 82, of Winona, Minn., was called to his heavenly home and reunited with his beloved wife, Arlene, on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Winona Health.

Ray was born on July 18, 1931, in Winona, Minn., to Ralph and Agnes (Wysocki) Meyer. On November 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Arlene Kropidlowski at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Arlene’s death on June 2, 2009.

He was employed by Winona Monument, as well as area foundries, with the last one being Standard Foundry, where he worked for over 30 years, and retired as head of the grinding room and shipping and receiving.

Ray loved his trips to the casino and was an all-around sportsman. He liked to hunt, fish, watch horse racing, boxing, and cheer for the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, fantastic memory and the wisdom he shared with his family and many friends. Ray’s family was the center of his life and he enjoyed family rides, picnics, spending time with his grandchildren and when everyone got together at Christmas. Ray liked to stop in at his local pub for a Pepsi, where his friends affectionately called him “Uncle Ray.”

Ray is lovingly survived by his children, Barbara (Leo) Blaskowski, Winona, Maureen Meyer, Winona, Jon (Lori) Meyer, Winona, Richard (Mary) Meyer, Winona, Sheila (Howard) Harmsted, Altura, and William Meyer, Winona; 14 grandchildren, Jakob Wright, Heather Pellowski, Marky Paetzel, Brian Paetzel, Scott Meyer, Ricky Meyer, Ryan Meyer, Eric Meyer, Jason Meyer, Alex Meyer, Caleb Meyer, Larry DuBois, Timmy Michalowski and Joseph Michalowski; 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and one granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Ray will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Friday, January 31, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Jake Wright, Ricky Meyer, Larry DuBois, Mark Paetzel, Ryan Meyer, Alex Meyer, Tim Michalowski and Joey Michalowski.
