The old fisherman now known as Saint Peter tells that we are God’s temple, that in Christ, God dwells in believers! Those same scriptures that Peter speaks of also tell us that “God is in us,” that He is OMNIPOTENT, OMNISCIENT and OMNIPRESENT!
How much of this world can you control? How strong are you? Can you change the weather? During the season the church calls Epiphany we are presented with the story of Christ stilling the storm on Lake Galilee. He spoke and the storm stopped! But you might say, “Well storms often stop suddenly, much in the same way they arise.” But you should note, that in this story, the wind not only stopped suddenly, but the waves which would roll on for hours suddenly stopped as well and there was a great calm. There in scripture is an example of the OMNIPOTENCE of God. No wonder the disciples said, “Who is this?” Even the waves obey Him? So wherever you go today or next week you can rejoice that your God in your Savior Jesus Christ has absolutely no limits to His power.
Secondly, God is OMNISCIENT! Normally we don’t like people who think they know it all. We sometimes call them “know it alls,” which is in no way a compliment! But please note that God really does know it all. His mind is vast enough to track all the thoughts and actions of all the people on the earth. That includes ours! That is amazing! Just think about Psalm 139: “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise. You perceived my thoughts from afar.” To unbelievers this is terrifying! But if you believe and know you are forgiven in Christ you will find God’s Omniscience comforting and He will always use this knowledge to help us, never to harm us.
Finally, our God is OMNIPRESENT! Has it ever bothered you that you cannot be present at a couple or even several places at the same time when you promised to be present? Well, God is present everywhere at the same time! Psalm 139 asks, “Where can I go from Your Spirit...or from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there, if I make my bed in hell [the grave], You are there.” The fact that God is everywhere shouldn’t scare you. He said, “I am with you always!” You have His care and love always. Believe it! God is also three Ohs: “Oh” what a Wonder, “Oh” what a gift, “Oh” give thanks unto the Lord!
