Sammann, Dean (02/12/2014)

Dean Sammann, 76, of Winona passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in Winona, MN, after a short period of time in the hospital for an acute medical condition.

Dean was born in Winona to Ella and Fred Sammann on August 21, 1937. His mother passed away when he was very young, and he and his siblings were raised by his father and his step-mother. Dean attended school in Winona, after which he spent his younger years as a member of the Navy and driving for a Winona Cab company. Deanís favorite pastimes included playing cards, watching Westerns on television, and spending time with his family and friends. Dean was an incredibly loving and devoted husband to his wife of thirty years, Maxine, and was a very caring father and grandfather.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Fred Sammann; step-mother, Alice Sammann; four siblings; and his loving wife Maxine (Horsman) Sammann.

Dean is survived by his daughters: Sue (Bruce) Feuling and Alice (Tom) Averbeck; grandchildren: Latasha (James) Larson, Alexia Averbeck, Mitchell Averbeck, Mckenzie Feuling; and great-granddaughter Rylee Larson.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the ICU staff at Winona Health for their support throughout Deanís final days.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Vernon Kettner will officiate.

Dean will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9 of Winona will provide full military honors.
