Merlin A. Storsveen, age 76, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at his home.
Merlin was born on May 5, 1937, in Winona, to Palmer and Esther (Berg) Storsveen. He was united in marriage with Shirley L. Ives on June 13, 1959, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.
He was employed for many years at Bittner Oil Company, and later at Severson Oil Company until his retirement. Merlin was a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona, where he served as an usher for many years.
Merlin will be remembered for his love of bowling, baseball, and watching sports – especially the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves. He also enjoyed regular trips to the casino, and playing cards with family and friends – his favorite card game was Schafkopf.
Merlin is lovingly survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley, Winona; children: Jean (Steve) Peterson, Kennewick, Wash., Debbie (Dennis) Veerkamp, St. Charles, Minn., Lynn Lee, Winona; Paul (Barb) Storsveen, St. Charles, Minn., and Rob (Amy) Storsveen, St. Charles, Minn., grandchildren: Skyler Peterson, Seattle, Wash.; Jill Veerkamp, St. Charles, Minn.; Amy (Luke) Rieke, South St. Paul, Minn.; Michael Storsveen, Winona; Andrew Storsveen, Eau Claire, Wis.; Sammi Storsveen, Rochester, Minn.; Shelby Storsveen, St. Charles, Minn., Dillon Storsveen, St. Charles, Minn.; two great-granddaughters: Kennedy and Briar Rieke; brothers and sisters: Ruth Ives, Hastings, Neb., LeRoy Storsveen, Rockford, Ill., Lois Brown, Winona, Nancy (Jerry) Kaehler, Winona, Judy Pellowski, Winona; brothers-in-law: Gerald “Jeff” (Carol) Ives, Winona, and James (Diana) Ives, Maple Grove, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Barbara (Duane) Hermanson, Roscoe, Ill., and Janet (Robert) Lee, Winona; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wayne Storsveen.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona – please meet at the cemetery gate.
The Reverend Richard A. Moore will officiate.
Following the service, a luncheon and reception will be held in the fellowship hall at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 328 E. Broadway, Winona.
