Elizabeth A. “Betty” Snyder, formerly of Winona, passed away on Monday Feb 17, 2014, at The Gables at Boutwells in Oak Park Heights (Stillwater), Minn.
She was born on July 6, 1916, in Winona, to Joseph and Rose (Safranek) Tushner (Tosnar in Bohemian).
Betty attended St. John Nepomucene Parochial School, and then Winona High School, graduating in 1934. After graduation, she worked in the family business - Tushner’s Market.
She married Wilfred J. (Will) Snyder on Feb 19, 1944, at St. Anselm’s Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. They had one daughter, Susan. Will preceded her in death on February 6, 2010.
Betty was a member of St. John Nepomucene Church, its Rosary Society, and the Hiawatha Valley Bird Club. She liked to be with her family and friends, watch birds, and enjoy nature. She had a great smile and sense of humor, and quick wit!
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ralph) Jobe of Afton, Minn., and grandchildren: Steve (wife Jennifer) Jobe and their children Will, Grant, and Isabelle, Cape Coral, Fla.; Scott Jobe and daughter Caitlin, Soldotna, Alaska; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Jean Torborg, New Brighton, Minn., and many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at St. John Nepomucene Church in Winona. The Reverend Monsignor Robert G. Meyer will officiate.
Betty will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. John Nepomucene Church on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
