Promoting Modern Ag event March 27 (03/05/2014)
By
The third annual Promoting Modern Agriculture (PMA) event has been scheduled for March 27, at the Riverport Inn, Winona. Farmers and farm groups are encouraged to work together to educate the public about how efficient farming practices benefit everyone. This year’s featured speaker is David Okerlund, one of the most widely known speakers in the United States. His focus on leadership, change and communication are just what farmers need to voice a positive message about agriculture. David has written three books with a fourth book, The 7 Traits of Dynamic Leaders in Leadership Roles due to be published this year.

Not only was the 2013 PMA event a success with over 350 people in attendance, it also started the ball rolling for activities throughout the year.

• Awarded seven $1,000 scholarships in conjunction with Winona County Farm Bureau and Winona County Corn Growers.

• Had a booth at the Winona County Fair with the sponsors Powerpoint presentation on display.

• Bought an agriculture “Book Bundle” for a Winona County school library.

Farmers have significant challenges today and yet have managed to become one of the most adaptable sectors of the economy. In 1945 there were 24 million dairy cows. Today we have 9 million and in spite of the fact we have fewer cows we are able to feed not only our country but export milk products to other countries. Modern agriculture proves that farmers are efficient and care deeply about the land and the animals.

This event is successful because it is sponsored by farm families and agribusinesses. Everyone is encouraged to be a sponsor. If you can’t sponsor we hope you can attend.
