Minimum wage mistake (03/10/2014)
By
From: Dennis J. Meyer

The Minnesota Legislature is currently debating raising the minimum wage to $9.50 per hour. The current minimum wage in Minnesota is $6.15 per hour, which I agree is too low. Raising the minimum wage to conform to the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 would be prudent. Minnesota needs to stay competitive with our neighbors in surrounding states. When labor costs increase, business will pass on these costs to the consumer, are you ready for the price of a hamburger to double in price? There is also a proposal to link the minimum wage to inflation; this would decrease the importance of job performance when reviewing employees, if everyone gets an increase any way. I urge voters to contact their Representative and their Senator to tell them that this increase is wrong for Minnesota and will drive business from the state.
