Residents escape fire unharmed (03/19/2014)
By Amelia Wedemeyer
On Friday, March 14, at 4:07 p.m., the Winona Fire Department (WFD) responded to a call regarding a fire at an apartment on the 100 block of East King Street. According to the WFD, while there was a tremendous amount of fire damage on the first floor, no one was injured and everyone inside the apartment was evacuated without incident. The fire started on the back porch at ground level within direct proximity of the electrical service; the WFD determined that the origin of the fire was electrical. Along with damage on the first floor, there was also significant heat and smoke damage throughout the first floor. Off-duty fire personnel were also called in to assist.
