Poblocki, Irene G. (03/26/2014)
Irene G. Poblocki, age 88, of Winona, Minn., passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Sauer Healthcare in Winona.

Irene was born on July 27, 1925, in Winona, Minn., to Joseph B. and Agnes A. (Paszkiewicz) Gilgosh. She met Joe Poblocki while working at the Oaks Supper Club; they were united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winona on November 11, 1946; Joe preceded her in death on October 31, 2011.

She was employed as a waitress at the American Legion, the Oaks, and served as a hostess at the Hot Fish Shop. She also worked at Sears, and was the manager of the Cosmetics Department at H. Choate and Company for many years.

Irene was a life-long member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, where she sang with the Funeral and Polish Choirs, and assisted with weekly church cleaning. Irene was an avid golfer and a past champion at Westfield Golf Club, and she enjoyed being a Pink Lady at the Winona Health Hospital. Some of her favorite pastimes included flower gardening, shopping, and traveling with Joe throughout the United States and with her friends internationally.

Irene is lovingly survived by her children: Nancy (Steven) Struck, Alexandria, Minn., and Gary Poblocki, Winona, Minn.; grandchildren Kym (Nikko) Struck, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Kendra (Tom) Hohman, Orange, Calif., Kelley (Georgie) Struck, Garfield, Minn., Kyra (Preston) Welsh, New Braunfels, TX, Heather (Garrett) Glazer, Pittsburgh, PA; and Farrah (Matt) Nelson, Escanaba, Mich.; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Kenneth (Marge) Poblocki, Winona, Minn., and Robert Poblocki, Austin, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Henrietta Cichosz, and brother, Earl Gilgosh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Irene will be laid to rest in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., where the Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Irene’s nephews.
