Trester, David Ronald (04/09/2014)
February 10, 1973 ó April 4, 2014

David R. Trester, 41, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at his home in Winona. Dave was born February 10, 1973, in Winona, Minn., to Ronald and Linda (Bion) Trester. He married Ellen LaRue on September 23, 2000, and they were blessed with a son, Dilan, in 2005. Dave worked at Benchmark Electronics for many years.

Dave enjoyed deer hunting early in life on his grandparentsí farm and as an adult on his brotherís land. He was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, and enjoyed shooting pool in several leagues. He was active in the Lewiston Sportsmenís Club, serving as vice president the last two years, and was named Sportsman of the Year in 2013. For many years he volunteered as a mentor with the Kicking Bear 1-on-1 Camp for Kids in Lewiston.

Dave enjoyed sharing his favorite hobbies with his son Dilan, especially fishing, archery, and other outdoor activities. He was well-known for his sense of humor and reputation as a jokester who could be counted on to be the life of the party. Despite the daily challenges of living with cystic fibrosis, he was passionate about helping others, and he had a positive impact on the lives of many people.

Dave is survived by his wife Ellen and their son Dilan; father, Ron (Jean); mother, Linda (Jeff) Sass; brother, Rick (Lisa) Schell and their children, Corey (Marjana), Shaunna (Todd) Mueggenberg, and Katie (Shea) Halverson; sister, Dawn (Jerry) Benedict and their children, Jeff Strand and Allen Benedict; and sister, Tracy (Matt) Starks and their children, Justine and Matthew. He is also survived by great-nieces Lilly and Isabella and great-nephews Ryker, Archer, and Marcus.

He was very close to Ellenís family, who also survive him: father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Patricia LaRue; brother-in-law, Mike (Marilyn) LaRue and their children, Mitchell and Madisyn; and brother-in-law, Derek LaRue and his daughter, Abby.

Dave will also be missed by his extended family, numerous friends and his dog, Hunny.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willard and Bernice Trester; and maternal grandparents, Richard Langowski and Phyllis Bion.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church in Winona. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Please share a memory of David, sign his online guestbook, and view his tribute video when it becomes available at www.hofffuneral.com.
