The body of a dead person was found inside a rented Anoka County RV after its occupants stopped at the Winona Shopko on Thursday night to investigate an odor. The occupants, who had picked up the RV from an address in Anoka County, discovered the body inside the exterior cargo bin, which is only accessible from the outside. According to the Winona Police Department (WPD), officers responded shortly after 10:00 p.m. and are currently investigating the discovery with assistance of the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
“I feel very confident there is no ongoing danger to the community in relation to this incident,” WPD Chief of Police Paul Bostrack assured. “We won’t have any further information until the autopsy is performed.”
The body is currently at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for an autopsy and formal identification. According to a press release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation is still in its early stages, and the scene and body will be processed in Winona.
