The Winona County Historical Society is planning the 2014 Voices from the Past: Woodlawn Cemetery Walk, and is looking for your stories and memories!
From standing in line to donate your nylons, to planning for gas rations, to corresponding with soldiers away… we would like to hear your family and personal stories about life in Winona County during times of war.
The Cemetery Walk will focus on those who lived and participated in war. Sites through the walk will discuss women in factories, war correspondence, service organizations like the Red Cross and USO; women in the military such as WAVES, WASPS; families memories of rationing and the draft; and more. We have many stories from those who made the newspapers and left their records behind, but would like to enhance those with the lives of those whose story is only remembered by aging family members at holiday gatherings.
Please join us for a special Food For Thought series event on May 21 at 12:05 p.m. in the History Center to share your memories and stories, especially if the story is about someone buried in Woodlawn Cemetery! Or please send your story to firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 507-454-2723.
