Sheila Abts, 66, of Fountain City, Wis., passed away surrounded by family on Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Sheila was born on August 6, 1947, to Keith and Frances (Rakestraw) Fleming in Macomb, Ill. Her family moved to Neillsville, Wis., and then to Cochrane while she was in grade school. Sheila graduated from Cochrane - Fountain City High School in 1965. On September 6, 1969, she married Thomas Abts in Fountain City at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Tom and Sheila made their home in Fountain City where they raised their two children while running the family business, Abts Grocery.
Sheila worked 40 plus years for Buffalo Electric/Riverland Energy as an office manager/administration coordinator. In her spare time she was active in Ladies Golf in Arcadia and Ladies Bridge in Winona. She was her husband’s Partner-in-Service as he served as the Lions District Governor this year. She and Tom visited the 48 Lions Clubs in their district and attended many Lions District Conventions. She enjoyed sewing and making blankets for her family. Sheila also enjoyed travelling. The most important thing for Sheila was spending time with her children and grandchildren. They were her world.
Preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Frances. Sheila will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 44 years, Tom; children, Keith (Jenny), Angela (Dan) Nisbit; grandchildren, Cecilia, Kendra, Charlie Abts, Olivia, Sophia, Macalister Nisbit; sister, Brenda (Fred) Neitzel; sister-in-law, Gerry Piechowski; and many more relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, at 1 p.m. also at the church with visitation one hour prior. Father John Abts will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fountain City. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Wisconsin Lions Foundation, Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin or Fountain City Lions.
