Palma B. “Pam” Maroushek, 100, of Winona, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Callista Court, Winona, Minn.
She was born on March 11, 1914, to Bernard and Petra (Grotberg) Viken at Lenora, Minn. She married Benjamin M. Maroushek, Sr. on April 18, 1933, in Winona. He died on July 29, 1983.
The couple farmed in Wiscoy Valley until moving to Winona in 1957. They resided in Bluff Siding, Wis., from 1959 to 1977 before moving to Goodview, Minn. She was a 50-year member of Witoka United Methodist Church until it merged with Ridgeway in 2001 and was renamed Ridgeway-Witoka United Methodist Church. She served as organist for 40+ years.
Upon leaving the farm she held various positions: Housekeeping Supervisor at The Watkins Home; Lunch Counter Supervisor at S.S. Kresge; catered at the Winona Country Club, as well as several private homes, and owned and operated a custom drapery shop out of her home for several years.
She worked part-time at Winona Volunteer Services for 15+ years and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2003. She was a very dedicated member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary for 50 years, where she held the office of President for three years, Musician, and Chairperson of their Annual Cancer Telethon for many years. She also received numerous awards, including Eagle of the Year in 1997 and District Grandmother for 2000-2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Ted) Gierok, Winona; two sons, Benjamin Jr. (Janice) Maroushek, Sun City, Ariz.; and Roger (Sharon) Maroushek, Henderson, Nev.; a total of 70 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends, and special friends John and Mona Ziegler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eugene; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Robert Haedtke; grandson, Michael Haedtke; great-granddaughter, Chelsea Baumann; seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with Pastor James Strom officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Minn.
Visitation will begin at noon at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona. The Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.
Casket bearers will be Tod Haedtke; Richard, Danny, Tim, and Thomas Maroushek; and Ed Morrell.
The family suggests memorials be made to Ridgeway-Witoka United Methodist Church.
