Thanks for 36 years of health care in Winona (06/25/2014)
From: Dr. Scott Turner

I, Dr. Scott Turner, was recently informed by Winona Health Administration that they would not be renewing my contract. As of September 1, 2014, I will no longer be an employee of Winona Health. Prior to that date I will be using up my accumulated vacation time. After providing health care in Winona since 1978, I will no longer be able to do so. I was informed that Winona Health is interested in “going in a different direction.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank this community for allowing me to share in their health care for 36 years. I hope that I was able to help many of you, and sincerely regret when I could not. I handed high school diplomas to patients I had delivered, and participated in many successful resuscitations during which the patient was on the brink of passing, including a fellow traveler to Ireland. There were also moments of great sadness that reminded me how precious life is. I leave my practice with a smile on my face, grateful for all of the memories you have given me.

I would also like to thank all of my fellow employees in the Department of Family Practice at the Winona Clinic, and, since 2007, the Emergency Department of Winona Health. I consider many of you good friends, and all of you excellent caregivers… keep up the good work! I will miss working with you.

Many of you know how old I am. When you return to the community you grew up in, you have too many classmates who have already retired. They compel me to look in the mirror, and invite me to join their ranks. Some have even suggested I stop working at golf and learn how to play it. To all of you, I say my mantra: “growing older is the goal… and quit smoking!” I look forward to the next chapter in life.
