Response to Finbar McMullen (07/21/2014)
From: Roger Slemmer

A response to Finbar McMullen, FSC, regarding abortion and contraception.

His most recent submission “Just What Is Abortion?” is especially troubling, as he seems to use science to excuse sin. Finbar goes deeply into the science of the mechanics of conception explaining that only 25 percent of fertilized eggs make it to term in a pregnancy. This really is beside the point. The natural processes are about how God made us to be.

What really is at issue on the moral plain is the intention of the human person to prevent what God has willed and what occurs naturally from the act of coitus. It is man taking the place of God in this matter when he has no right to. If a person uses an object, takes a drug or undergoes a sterilization procedure meant to prevent conception or implantation of a fertilized egg, he sets himself against the will of God and the natural law. He sins.

Finbar accuses God of being responsible for what humans do with the sex drive that He gave them! God gave the sex drive for the propagation of the human race. All human actions should be subject to reason and the will of man as this is the higher nature of human beings. The animal nature is lower. A human person is able to choose his actions.

A human is a person at the moment of conception. And it is not just the couple acting here; God directly creates the human soul of the person conceived. To destroy the life of that person is murder.

Finbar says that there should be no equation of contraception with abortion. Reason shows that they have the same end — the intentional prevention of the existence of a human person. Both rob God of a soul destined for heaven. Both are mortally sinful. Both, if not repented, lead the soul to hell.

That the ACA, or Obamacare, compels every individual citizen to finance free contraception and abortion through their health plans is an unacceptable intrusion into the moral realm by the federal government. Hobby Lobby only objected to a few means of contraception that it thinks prevents implantation. I object and all good Catholics should object to all forms of contraception and abortion.

That the federal government is forcing sinful behavior on its citizens shows that our country is ripe for a chastisement from heaven. God have mercy on us all if we do not object to this! If we do not resist this intrusion into the moral aspects of our lives! Every law that is opposed to God’s law is no law at all! Such laws must be overturned and nullified! And certainly not obeyed!

It has been said that the government cannot or should not legislate morality. Our government seems to have no problem with legislating immorality. It has been said that there should be a separation of church and state. Our government suppresses the church and takes its place in the moral matters that affect the salvation of souls. It has even made it a “hate crime” to oppose immorality. Satan could not have thought of a better way to force souls onto the road to perdition and keep them there!

Should pro-life people get off their moral high ground and work to prevent pregnancies to prevent abortions? The end does not justify the means, Finbar.

“Woe to you that call evil good and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Woe to you that are wise in your own eyes, prudent in your own conceits...They justify the wicked for gifts, and take away the justice of the just from him...For they have cast away the law of the Lord of Hosts, and have blasphemed the word of the Holy One of Israel.”
