Enjoy the music fix the benches! (07/28/2014)
Nancy Holubar Newhall

Gearhart, Oregon

As a former member of the Winona City Band, I take the opportunity to enjoy a Wednesday night band concert whenever I am visiting Winona. The concerts are wonderful, as always, but the seating needs to be addressed. Whoever designed the metal benches obviously had a sadistic streak. They are too tall for most people to be able to sit in comfortably so the audience members bring their own lawn chairs or sit in the more comfortable wooden benches behind the main seating area. The band plays to a mainly empty seating area. In the interest of audience comfort and participation, the metal benches need to be lowered to allow people to place their feet on the ground. Perhaps the bench designer would profit from attending a concert and attempting to remain seated quietly while watching and trying to enjoy the performance.
