NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TO CONSIDER THE DESIGNATION OF
351 WEST WABASHA STREET AS A
WINONA HERITAGE PRESERVATION SITE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Winona, Minnesota, will meet in the Council Chambers on the Third Floor of City Hall, 207 Lafayette Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2004, to consider the designation of property located at 351 West Wabasha Street as a Local Winona Heritage Preservation Site.
Historically referenced as the Whitman House, this home serves as an excellent example of the Italianate style of architecture. The home was constructed in 1866 by George A. and Elizabeth Whitman. Along with owning several large farms in Mt. Vernon Township, Mr. Whitman owned and operated the Winona Milling Company during the later half of the 1900s. By 1888, this company had developed a total of 46 elevators along the lines of the Winona and St. Peter Railroad. A detached garage complements this designation.
Further information may be obtained by contacting the Department of Community Development, Room 210, City Hall at (507) 457-8250.
