The middle school spelling bee was held on Tuesday evening, January 11. Sixty-four sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students participated in this event. The team winners for sixth and seventh grades and the top three spellers of each grade advance to the City-Wide spelling bee, which will be held on Saturday, February 5th, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Winona Middle School auditorium.
In sixth grade, the team champions were Anna Thackeray, Niv Singh, and Erika Johnsrud. The sixth grade individual champion was Jaina Kovaloski, who won on the word gaiety. 2nd place was Alli Wildenborg and 3rd place Kelsie Brand. The seventh grade team champions were Naeh Klages-mundt, Andrew Van Cleave and Tim Van Cleave. The seventh grade individual champion was Kylee Fredrickson, who won on the word impostor. 2nd place was Brandon Scharmer and 3rd place Andrew Van Cleave. The eighth grade has only an individual competition. The 8th grade champion was Sarah Quarishi, who won on the word umbilical. The 2nd place winner was Eric Meyer and 3rd Katie Gunderson. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all the students who participated in this event.
