For a second year WSU and Central Elementary have teamed up to present a program entitled "How Parents Help Kids, Teachers, and Schools." The program will feature WSU professional educators addressing practical ways parents can make their schools and homes better learning environments. Emphasis will be on specific skills, understandings, and projects so that parents can work with their children to encourage a love of learning in the home.
The program is one of several partnership relationships being explored by Winona State University and the Winona Area Public Schools.
The first session will be held Monday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at Central Elementary School. Entitled "Books Your Children Will Love to Learn From: How to Choose the Very Best Ones," the presentation will be led by Laura Armstrong, adjunct instructor in WSU's English Department and consultant for Time Out. She will be assisted by James Armstrong, Associate Professor in WSU's English Department.
The session will focus on how parents and teachers can identify the qualities of books most educationally useful to children.
All sessions are free and open to the public. Child-care will be provided during the presentations.
