Half-day workshop for dairy farmers (01/23/2005)
Eastwood Bank has joined with the University of Minnesota Extension Service to present "Winning the Game: The Dairy Edition." This half-day workshop is filled with practical, easy-to-execute advice to help dairy farmers better understand milk marketing.

In "Winning the Game: The Dairy Edition," participants get a greater understanding of the seasonality of milk prices, learn about price variability and risk and explore the marketing tools available to forward price milk. As part of the workshop, participants test their marketing skills with a fast-paced marketing game that simulates a year of milk marketing. They see the results of their decisions, not just for one year, but also against several years of actual market prices.

"Through the marketing game, participants learn how different strategies can smooth out the bumps in their monthly milk check," explains Robert Craven, director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Farm Financial Management, the group that developed the workshop.

"Winning The Game: The Dairy Edition" is scheduled for Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the St. Charles Community Center. The workshop is free, but space is limited. To pre-register for the workshop, contact Duane Klein or Bill DeBruyckere at 507-689-2151.

The workshop is sponsored by Eastwood Bank in cooperation with the North Central Risk Management Education Center, the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences, and the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
