Annabel M. Becker, age 91, of Buffalo City, died early Tuesday morning, December 20, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her loving family at her side.
Annabel was born on April 16, 1914, near Dickenson, ND, a daughter of the late Roy J. and Ida (Loewenhagen) Mahlman. On June 12, 1940, Annabel was united in marriage to Emmert H. Becker at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Alma. Emmert preceded her in death on January 13, 1983.
Annabel has a busy life raising and caring for her six children and later, day care children who would call her "Mommy Becker." She also worked for a time as a waitress at the Buffalo City Resort for the Prondsinskis. Later, she also did domestic work for several families in the area. She was active in her ladies church group and her ladies night out club both of which she was a member of for more than fifty years. Annabel will be remembered for her enjoyment of baking and cooking. She was best remembered for her sweet rolls and her apple pies, which she enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Annabel will be sadly missed by her four sons and two daughters, Dale of Lake City, Kenneth (Patty) of Buffalo City, Diane, of Alma, Gloria (Roger) Kulack, of Lewiston, MN, John (Roxanne), of Fountain City, and David, of Buffalo City; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, John Mahlman, and two sisters, Eva Hammer and Inez Muzynski, all of Cochrane. Her parents and husband, Emmert, preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 23, 2005, at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Alma, with Father Rick Roberts as celebrant. Burial will follow at Buffalo City Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of Mass. Pallbearers will be Annabel's two grandsons and four of her grandsons-in-law. The Talbot Family Funeral Home of Cochrane and Alma assisted the family with arrangements.
