Wallerich, Richard


Richard F. "Dick" Wallerich, age 80, of Wabasha, died Thursday, December 15, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha. He was born October 1, 1925, near Dumfries, in Glasgow Township of Wabasha County, the son of Frank and Louise (Ginthner) Wallerich. He grew up on the family farm near Dumfries, and after graduating from high school, he farmed there. He married Dorothy Sexton, of rural Millville, on September 16, 1947, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in West Albany. They lived on the Wallerich family farm until moving to Wabasha in 1954. He worked at Wallace Supply, an auto parts supply business, later becoming a co-owner in 1980. The business later became known as Dick's Auto Supply. He retired in 1990 and sold the business to his son, Jeff.

Dick was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. He was also a member of the St. Joseph's Society of the Catholic Aid Association and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served for 20 years on the Wabasha Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening with his wife, bowling and woodworking.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and James Doyle, Flower Mound, TX, Kathleen Wallerich, Rochester, MN, Linda and Harry Nelson, Middle River, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Heidi Wallerich, Potomac, MD, James and Michele Wallerich, Glen Burnie, MD, Steven and Peggy Wallerich, Geneva, MN, Jeffrey and Linda Wallerich, Wabasha, MN; 12 grandchildren; two-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Luella Wallerich, Rochester, MN; nieces and nephews. His wife, Dorothy, who died February 25, 2004, and one sister, Rose Brinkman, preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass was offered on Monday, December 19, 2005 at St. Felix Catholic Church with the Reverend William Kulas officiating. Interment was in St. Felix Cemetery. Honorary bearers were his grandchildren. Casket bearers will be his four sons and two sons-in-law. The family prefers memorials to St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements.
