Island City Jazz Jam first anniversary


Come celebrate a year full of Island City Jazz Jams on Sunday, September 15, 2019, with the H3O Jazz Trio. The monthly jams take place on the third Sunday of each month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. As a special thank you, Island City Brewing will offer everyone at the Jazz Jam a special first anniversary discount: $1-off pints, when you mention “Jazz Jam,” with each order between 5:30-8:30!

The Island City Jazz Jam began in September 2018 and has welcomed talented performers ages eight to 91 from Iowa, Wisconsin, various Minnesota cities, and even Arizona! Whether you play an instrument or sing, the Jazz Jam is a chance for everyone to sit in with a professional rhythm section. All are welcome and encouraged to perform some favorite jazz standards in this casual, open-mic setting.

Interested jammers can choose from a wide selection of jazz tunes. Players can pick music from Hal Leonard Real Books, bring their own, or ask the trio to play their favorites! Simply sign up on the clipboard and get ready to have some fun!

About the H3O Jazz Trio

The father and son’s jazz trio H3O began performing together when bassist Max Heukeshoven was only 14 years old. Along with older brother Hans on drums and vibes and dad Eric on the piano, the group was asked to play for a private pool party and hasn’t stopped since!

A. Eric Heukeshoven is an assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Hans Heukeshoven is a 2014 graduate of Saint Mary’s with degrees in music performance and computer science and works as a software engineer. Max Heukeshoven is a 2019 graduate of Saint Mary’s with degree in music industry and plans to attend law school.

H3O Jazz Trio performs a wide variety of jazz styles including original music. They have worked as the rhythm section for numerous area professionals including Minnesota Music Hall of Fame’s Les Fields and Dr. John Paulson. Recent appearances include the Castle Community/Threshold Arts (in Rochester, Minn.), Midwest Music Fest, Great River Shakespeare Festival, HBC25’s Artwork Winona, Free Family Concert Series, Winona County Historical Society, Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winghaven Pizza Farm, Salem Glen Winery, Grace Presbyterian Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and numerous other venues. The trio hosts the monthly Jazz Jam at Island City Brewing Company in Winona, usually on the third Sunday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
