The Winona Friendship Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m to noon.
Those who have memberships will receive a renewal letter a month before you need to renew your membership. The membership cost consists of $30 for an individual or $50 for a couple (two people in a household). Memberships are yearly from the date of purchase. Stop in to get your membership set up or renewed.
2019 Active Wellness Center membership
WSU exercise science students are available for monitoring and training. The program includes older-adult-friendly exercise equipment and work-out programs designed specifically for each individual. Release forms must be filled out prior to work out on the first day; forms will be faxed to your doctor to avoid charges for an office visit.
The center accepts Silver & Fit or Silver Sneakers. If you have either of these programs the fee is free and the center does the billing. Payment is required upon registering. The cost for members is $78 yearly.

Activity Council Holiday Party
The Activity Council Holiday Party will be on Wednesday, December 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for members is $8. A chicken dinner will be held at 11:30 a.m. Bring one dozen holiday cookies for sharing on the cookie buffet. Attend the annual meeting at noon and be eligible for one of two $25 gift cards. Wear your “ugly” sweater and join for some holiday fun after the meeting. Bring a wrapped $5 (or under) gift and enter a gift game exchange.
Mn Safety Council defensive driving initial eight-hour course
If you are 55 or older, save money on your car insurance premiums and become a better driver. A 10-percent reduction for three years is available if you complete the National Safety Council’s defensive driving course. A certificate will be provided at the end of the course for you to present to your insurance agent. Wisconsin residents must ask their insurance agent if they will cover the 10-percent discount. Pre-register and payment is required by December 10.
The class will be on Monday and Wednesday, December 16 and 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost for members is $17; for non-members, it is $26.
Teleconference: The Mongol Empire, History & Legacy
The Inner Asian & Uralic Resource Center will offer this teleconference on Wednesday, December 4, from 11 a.m.to noon. It is free for members.
This program explores the history and legacy of the Mongol Empire that ruled over much of Asia and Europe in the 13th century. It also explores how the empire rose and maintained and its eventual disintegration.
Teleconference: Invisible ancestors
The Library of Congress will offer the teleconference Invisible ancestors: Ideas and strategies for recreating their stories, on Friday, December 6, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. It is free for members.
Many ancestors, including early immigrants and pioneers, slaves, women, Native people, and others, do not have compiled biographies and are invisible in the historical record, except through the census or other data collection entities.

Barbara Saykally will facilitate this class on Friday, December 6, from 1-2 p.m. The cost for members is $5.50.
