Talking Circle at Unity Park tonight

The American Indian Parents Advisory Committee will be hosting a Talking Circle at the Unity Park Fire Circle in Winona near the lake behind Winona Health at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at no cost.

The circle is being facilitated by David Schuyler, a Pipe Carrier, SunDancer and AIPAC student liaison. The focus of this circle is healing, empathy, hope and solidarity in the common goal of supporting positive change for youth, their future and the community.

Organizers humbly invite and encourage youth, grandparents, parents, teachers, faculty, educators, faith institutions, elected officials, administrators and any member of the community to participate with words, hope, support, presence, empathy, success and strength in an effort of unified healing for youth and  commitment to change.

In respect for this focus organizers ask that any attending youth be afforded first opportunity to speak as the group is limited to three hours for this circle. This is a traditional method of council and out of respect for who is sharing and what is shared absolutely no recordings or pictures of the Talking Circle will be allowed. Leave with only your story and the positive energy to grow.

Please bring your own chair, blanket and refreshments. Masks are encouraged as well as respect for social distancing. The fire will be cared for with respect for Native traditions and local fire ordinances by designated Fire Keepers.

Schuyler will give an opening invocation, direction and instruction as well as guide the circle. Organizers are honored in his willingness to facilitate this traditional practice and his commitment to helping youth.
