On July 24 Emily Tipton described for the Learning Club via Zoom a fantastic program that helps develop a love for reading in the youngest generation. Tipton is a member of the Friends of the Winona Public Library. She acquired a grant from the Donna Helbel trust through the Winona Community Foundation to fund Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for young children of Winona County. The program sends a high-quality, age-appropriate book free of charge every month to children ages birth to five. When the program was announced in mid-June, Tipton said that 350 families signed up for it that first day. Within a month 605 children, approximately 25 percent of children in this age group in Winona County, have been registered to begin receiving books.
