A local substance abuse prevention coalition has been jolted to create community engagement during these uncertain times. Winona County Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention or ASAP is a community ran organization dedicated to preventing youth substance abuse in Winona County since 2012. This coalition is run by 12 community members who want to provide a safe environment for the youth to grow up.
ASAP has been adapting to the pandemic by partnering with local organizations to implement virtual learning opportunities. One of ASAP’s popular activities is the Hidden in Plain Sight Exhibit that has been modified into a virtual video for parents and guardians to view.
October is National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month, ASAP hosted a drug take-back drive-through on October 24 to offer a safe way for the community to dispose of unused or expired medication. We would like to thank Winona Health for providing the location to host this event and a special thanks to the volunteers who helped with this event.
ASAP also hosted a carpool cinema on October 10 to provide the community with a fun family event. We showed the film “Sing” and had a special performance from The Little Warrior Drumline. This event was extremely successful! We enjoyed seeing family members smiling and having a great time. We would like to thank all our sponsors, donors, and volunteers who made this event possible.
ASAP is extremely grateful to have support from the community. We would like to thank community members for attending our events and activities. We will continue to offer support to keep the youth of Winona safe. To learn more about ASAP visit our website at www.winonacountyasap.org.
