January 3, 2005

The Winona Area Widowed Persons Group will meet Monday, January 3, at 7 p.m. at the Winona Senior Friendship Center, Fifth and Main Streets. There will be a program, short business meeting, and some information on the newsletter.

January breakfasts will continue to be at 8 a.m. Tuesdays at Country Kitchen. Dinners will be Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at Perkins. All area widowed persons are invited. There are no memberships required. For more information call Gen at 452-8334 or Ceil at 454-3484.

January 4

The monthly meeting of the Winona Area Crime Stoppers Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, January 4. The meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. and is held at Prime Steak and Cake in Winona. The meeting is open to the public.

January 8

The American Association of University Women will meet on Saturday, January 8, in the Purple Rooms at WSU's Kryzsko Commons. Coffee and conversation begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by a meeting and program. The program will be a panel discussion of the Winona Reads selection, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. The meeting is open to members of AAUW and their guests.

January 10

The Ruskin Study Club will meet at l:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, at Judy Richter's home. Cohostess is Donna Helble. After a short business meeting by President Nancy Nelson, Jean Hayes will read her paper, " The Empire of Tea."

January 12

The Learning Club has an informative program on Wednesday, January 12, at 10:00 a.m. at the Winona County Historical Society. Rusty Cunningham of the Winona Daily News will present "The Free Press: Why Freedom of the Press is Still Important in our High Tech World." Registration is due for Learning Club members for a trip to the Twin Cities on January 14, to tour the Star Tribune Heritage Center, the Minnesota History Center Museum and the Cathedral.

The Winona Travel Club meets the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. The travel destination for this month's presentation is Turkey. For information on meeting place, joining the club, attending a meeting, or for general information contact Nancy Myers at 453-0750 or email at
