Growing connections is the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the 7 Rivers Region (BBBS7.) Most recently, the organization entertained four of their matches for a fun, St. Patrick’s Day-themed monthly event.
BBBS7’s matches and leadership continue to demonstrate resilience in the face of uncertainty through consistent engagement. The bigs have continued to volunteer their time and provide one-to-one support to the child they are matched with (their “little”) to ensure that the child is not left behind. One of the most powerful ways the organization connects with the matches is through engaging events put on for the youth that they serve who range in age from 5-15.
These monthly events, typically pertaining to recreation, education, arts, cultures, or humanities, are an opportunity for matches to strengthen their relationships with one another while also having fun. The March event was appropriately themed in honor of St Patrick’s Day. The group had a blast playing bingo and painting plant pots with new succulents while being fueled by some themed cookies and soda!
These events would not be possible without the volunteers and sponsors that ignite the potential of the children in the BBBS7 program. Big brother Logan, who has been matched with his little for over a year, had some advice for individuals looking to get involved in BBBS7. “Just know that whatever you’re doing is making an impact,” Logan said. “Small changes and small moments can really make big differences later.”
BBBS7’s matches are a lot like succulents. They require time, fuel, consistency, and patience. If you are interested in learning more about Big Brothers Big Sisters or have an interest in becoming a big or big couple, please visit www.7riversbbbs.org or call 608-782-2227.
