Last Monday evening the Winona City Council approved plans for a pared back schedule of the city’s 74th annual summer celebration. According to the Winona Steamboat Festival Association President Maynard Johnson, events are planned for June 16 through the 20.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions not all events will be possible; however ,there will still be plenty of activity in downtown Winona. Gold Star Amusements will be back with carnival attractions, as well as food vendors at the foot of Main Street and the entertainment garden on Levee Plaza. The garden will be open daily Wednesday through Saturday, with entertainment each evening. Under current COVID-19 guidelines the area will be closing at 11 p.m. each night.
Due to the difficulty in maintaining mask and social distancing within COVID-19 protocols, the Grand Parade and fireworks display are not planned at this time.
Events taking place will be the Annual Big Cup Classic golf outing which will be held on June 12, the Treasure Hunt with KG 95.3FM, the Kids Fishing Contest, the Municipal Band Concert and the softball, volleyball and bean bag tournaments.
A Button Design Contest was held earlier this year. Buttons will be available in later May after this year’s design winner is announced.
The festival association has worked closely with city and state officials to make sure all COVID-19 protocols are followed, and they look forward to a fun and safe celebration.
Steamboat Days will be unveiling a new website at winonasteamboatdays.com where updates will be posted, and information will also be available on the festival’s Facebook page.
