The Parson Sisters perform at Old Main in Galesville

The Parson Sisters (Mirinisa Stewart-Tengco on fiddle and Clara Byom on keys) is a duo based in Albuquerque, N.M., specializing in global folk dance music, including Balkan, Irish, contra, and English country. Stewart-Tengco and Byom became instant friends and musical collaborators after being introduced by mutual friends in January 2018. The New Mexican folk music and dance communities are at the heart of The Parson Sisters’ work, as they’ve been independently active in two important local organizations — New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society and Southwest International Folk Dance Institute — and hope to encourage a new generation of dancers and musicians to embrace and share these cultural traditions.

Byom is a graduate of G-E-T High School, and one of the original performers in the Gale Star series. She has returned many times in various groups, and was instrumental in acquiring Old Main’s grand piano. The Old Main Gale Star program seeks to present the finest folk, classical and popular music in the historic, acoustically live auditorium of the stone building where many artists love to perform.

The concert will be enjoyed in a bistro setting, with an area set aside for dancing in case anyone is inclined. Complimentary refreshments are served at intermission. Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for college students. Those in high school and younger are free. Everyone is welcome.

To find Old Main turn south from Ridge Avenue at 12th Street, then right on College Avenue. The stone building is lighted; new Old Main street signs are up.
