Ashley for the Arts will be recognizing the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre (ECCT) with its prestigious Patron of the Arts Award on Friday, August 9, on the main stage before X Ambassadors’ performance at 8 p.m. The Patron of the Arts award was created to recognize an individual or organization that has demonstrated extraordinary support for the arts.
The ECCT is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven community theater providing quality theatrical and educational experiences for Western Wisconsin residents of all ages. Founded in 1989, the ECCT is currently celebrating the end of its 30th anniversary season in August. The organization provides opportunities for young people as on-stage performers and as family audience members.
Starting in 1989, ECCT presented a season of three shows, which quickly grew to five shows and then 10 productions. Currently, the ECCT produces 16 shows each season with over 80 performances — including major Broadway musicals and plays based on award-winning children’s literature. Over 32,000 patrons view a show each year; there are eight major mainstage productions, eight shows that are presented for the public and for school matinees, and two touring productions that travel to 11 cities across Wisconsin yearly. Each summer, over 400 children sign up to take summer classes.
The ECCT’s 31st (2019-2020) season will kick-off beginning this fall. The season will include major musicals, including “Mary Poppins,” “Newsies,” Disney’s “Frozen” and the holiday musical “Elf,” along with shows for schools and families like “Spookley the Square Pumpkin,” “A Year With Frog and Toad,” “Bridge to Terabithia,” and “Pippi Longstocking.”
“Ashley for the Arts is proud to recognize the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre for this year’s Patron of the Arts award,” said Cole Bawek, event director of Ashley for the Arts. “We’re very blessed to have outstanding organizations like the ECCT in our region that help promote the power of the arts, especially to those at such a young age. Thirty years is a major accomplishment, and we wish the ECCT 30 more years of continued success for their mission to provide quality theatrical and educational experiences to all ages.”
