The Charles Wesley Center for Sacred Music and Arts, a ministry of Wesley United Methodist Church in Winona, announces its first Sacred Music Contest for songwriters.
The Charles Wesley Center for Sacred Music and Arts seeks to expand the understanding and use of music and arts within worship, in nurturing faith, and in making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Music is an integral part of worship, putting what people believe about God and their relationship with God, all God’s children, and creation into song. Songs stay with people, replaying in their heads, teaching them the theology of their faith.
This year’s Sacred Music contest will be an invitation for songwriters to create new songs for the observance of Lent that reflect some of the lament the nation is experiencing. These are the categories:
• New lyrics that use familiar meters and may be sung to familiar tunes
• Original tune and lyrics in the style of a hymn
• Original tune and lyrics in a contemporary style
Each category will have two separate classes, one for children/youth and one for adults.
Entries must be postmarked by January 15, 2020. The judges will arrive at their decision by February 8, 2020. For more information and details regarding submitting an entry, please visit https://app.box.com/s/gnnqcsz66c2ahe1zhwnjnw84r9lxkyoc.
