The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona is opening a new exhibition on January 24, 2020. Gregory Euclide: Observation Infiltration features the paintings, sculptures, dioramas, and mixed-media installation pieces of artist Gregory Euclude. Observation Infiltration runs through May 24, 2020.
Euclide is an artist and teacher living in the Minnesota River Valley. Euclide’s unique works explore landscape, water, and the collision of nature and mankind. He uses a variety of found objects, both natural and artificial, to explore humankind’s impact on the natural world. Euclide invites people to explore worlds where he blends real and imagined images, objects, and materials to evoke feelings of nostalgia, question the reality of the present moment, and provide a look toward the future.
Euclide has exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Paris. He is the recipient of fellowships from the Jerome Foundation and the McKnight Foundation, as well as grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board. His work was also featured on the 2012 Grammy Award winning album cover of the musical group Bon Iver.
On Friday, March 20, from 6-7 p.m., Euclide will lead an artist demonstration in the MMAM’s Oberton Education Room. The following day, Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Euclide will lead a walk and talk in the exhibition, sharing the techniques and inspirations behind his work. Both events are free and open to the public.
The exhibition and artist appearances are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
There is always something new to experience at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, a nonprofit art museum that engages visitors in meaningful visual art experiences through education and exhibitions that explore the ongoing and historic human relationship with water. It is located at 800 Riverview Drive in Winona and is surrounded by acres of native prairie gardens along the Mississippi River. Gallery and MMAM Store hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
