Winona Family YMCA building project a third complete

The race for the new YMCA building may have started at a slow pace with more than six years of fundraising, but now that construction is underway, the speed has quickened to a full-out run. The Winona Family YMCA announced the new building is one third complete after only five months of construction.

“I’m amazed by the progress that Market & Johnson has made in the last five months,” Winona Family YMCA CEO Janneke Sobeck said enthusiastically. “It’s exciting to see our future rising out of the ground and taking shape, one day at a time.”

According to project superintendent Josh Zibrowski, the foundations of the building have been finished and the construction team is now transitioning to masonry and steel installment. The north access road is being finished, the first installments of electrical boxes are being put in, and plumbers are finishing up miscellaneous underground plumbing. Also as of recently the construction team was able to open Parks Avenue to public traffic.

“Overall we are still progressing along nicely,” Zibrowski said.

Sobeck is thankful the construction team was able to hit certain milestones needed before winter came in order for the project to continue through the cold weather.

“This project means a lot not just to the Y, but to the whole community,” Sobeck said. “I’m thankful to the construction team for their hard work in getting us to this point and keeping us on track to be completed in October 2020.”
