Koenig (Ouitau), Lisa Ouitau

Lisa Ouitau Koenig (Ouitau), of Highland, Minn., passed away peacefully on August 16, 2020, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minn.

She was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 23, 1956, to Richard and Ouitau (Neill) Williams. She grew up in Texas and after graduation, she lived in Louisiana, New Mexico, California, and Colorado and settled in Tyler, Texas, with her daughter, where she met her husband, Jim. In 1996, they moved to Highland. Minn. Ouitau worked as a dental hygienist in Austin, Minn., until suffering a stroke in 2015. Ouitau was a fun loving outdoorsy woman who was truly one with nature; she enjoyed camping during all times of year, hiking in the bluffs of Southeastern Minnesota, boating and fishing and watching the sunrise and set, and she appreciated God’s beauty here in the Midwest. Ouitau also loved cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband and her daughter, Mariah.

She had a big heart and loved her family and friends dearly, and she always had a way of making you smile with her wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed simple pleasures spending time with family and friends, food, good ole music, companionship of dogs and tubing adventures. Ouitau was proud of her American Indian heritage, and integrated that into many areas of her life. Ouitau believed that balance was the key to life; always stressed how important it was to pull yourself together during the most difficult times because the sun was going to rise again.

Ouitau is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Jim Koenig of Highland, Minn.; her daughter, Mariah (Patrick) Hardesty of Nacogdoches, Texas; stepson, Bryon (Holly) Koenig; with grandchildren, Nick, Annabelle, and Rachel of Nodine, Minn.; mother, Ouitau Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; father-in-law, George Koenig of Winona; sister, Dena (John) Fuller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother, Neill (Claudia) Williams of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law, Mary Koenig, Melanie (Dan) Messmann and Debbie Koenig; nieces, Allie Fuller, Saige Fuller, Tauvie Fuller, Cameron Williams, Maggie Messmann, Ellie Messmann, and Jessica Koenig; nephews, Dakota Fuller, Seth Fuller, Jackson Williams, Robyn (Kim) Donalds, Lee (Sara) Wade,  Daniel (Rachel) Koenig, Sean (Nichole) Koenig, and Jason (Penny) Koenig; and many cousins and close friends. Ouitau was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, mother-in-law, uncles, three brothers-in-law, friends and other family members.

Lisa Ouitau Koenig was a woman of God, a loving mother, an amazing wife. She was an honest and faithful friend and will forever make an impression and hold a very special place in many hearts. We will greatly miss you mom, but you are free now. Go hike up into the mountains and enjoy your eternal life. We will never forget you or the accomplishments that your life held.

A special thank you to the wonderful staff at The Good Shepherd. A private family service will be held in the future. Cards of condolences may be sent to 39087 County Road 10, Lanesboro, Minn., 55949.
