James Petterson Sr., of Fargo, N.D., died at home on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, surrounded by his family while in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He was 85.
Jim was born on July 19, 1935, in Walker, Minn., to R.C. “Pete” and Leola (Mellon) Petterson. He graduated from Enderlin High School and Jamestown College.
Jim married Arlene Hauschulz on October 22, 1958.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene; his son, James ( Mary) Petterson Jr. McCall, Idaho; his daughter, Jan (Paul) Brosnahan, Winona, Minn.; his sister, Judith (Donald) Mackenzie, Minneapolis, Minn.; his grandchildren, MacKenzie Brosnahan and Roger Brosnahan; step-grandchildren, Ian Faurot and Laurel Faurot; sisters-in-law, Shirley Nesemeier, Janice Holland (George), Marlys Wahlert, and Debra Pettit (Gerald); and brothers-in-law, Rodney Hauschulz (Marleen) and Bob Hauschulz (Sharon).
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, R.C. and Leola Petterson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Twila Hauschulz; and brothers-in-law, Lamoin Nesemeier and James Wahlert.
A private memorial service has been held.
In recognition of the compassionate end of life care Jim received, the family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the Winona Area Hospice and Winona Health.
