A fire at Zaza’s Pizzeria on Monday morning resulted in some tenants of the apartments above the shop being helped out of their residences. The fire also caused smoke and water damage throughout the pizzeria, as well as smoke damage to the apartments. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Winona Fire Department’s (WFD) Fire Prevention Bureau and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
WFD firefighters were called to Zaza’s at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning. They and Winona Police Department officers assisted several residents with getting out of their apartments. The residents are now housed on Winona State’s campus. The fire was extinguished quickly and mostly contained to the kitchen area, according to WFD Chief Curt Bittle.
